Portrait: What makes the Akkeshi Taisho 2022 special.

The Akkeshi distillery only started operating about seven years ago with two pot stills from Forsyths and is already writing a success story. Like its role models on the whisky island of Islay, the distillery from the Hokkaido region is located directly on the sea - just a few meters from the Pacific Ocean. Surrounded by swamps, it also has direct Access to the local peat, through which even the water for production flows.

The distillery releases its small-batch whiskies in the „24 Solar Term Series”, inspired by the 24 solar years of the ancient Asian calendar.
The hottest time of the year and its many festivals with fireworks is dedicated to Akkeshi Taisho 2022. Its indigo blue design is inspired by yukata, the lightweight summer kimonos worn during the summer months. For the Blended Japanese Whisky, Akkeshi combines single malt with grain whisky, which was purchased as a raw spirit and matured on site. After maturation in, among other things, Mizunara Oak Casks, a summer dram is created with citrus freshness from grapefruit to lime, a hint of salt and sage as well as sweet chocolate.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Akkeshi Taisho 2022 tastes

• Nose: Full aromas of ripe citrus fruits, especially limes and grapefruits, followed by fresh herbs - Sage and some lovage
• Palate: soft and balanced - again the citrus fruits, plus clearly light chocolate and sage sweets
• Finish: long and soft on the finish - now the fruit is in the foreground again, the chocolate and herbs take a back seat
