Portrait: What makes the Citadelle Rouge.

The Citadelle Rouge is distilled at the Château de Bonbonnet in the heart of the Cognac region in France. 9 pot stills are used here, all of which are approx. 50 years old and hold 25hl.
The raw material is a distillate from French wheat. The “progressive infusion” of 24 fresh fruits and botanicals then gives this distillate its distinctive taste. No colourings, additives and no sugar are added.

The botanicals used are: juniper, orris root, almonds, fennel, star anise, lemon peel, orange peel, cardamom, violet, nutmeg, coriander, cubeb pepper, spice bark, liquorice, Savory, Sezchuan Pepper, Angelica, Cumin, Rhubarb, Cranberries, Blueberries, Raspberries and Blackcurrants

Perfect for a Gin & Tonic with a small stalk of rhubarb for decoration

Tasting Notes: This is how the Citadelle Rouge tastes

  • Nose: intense aromas of red fruits and hints of fresh pastry
  • Palate: complex, fresh with a perfect balance of sweetness and savory pepper - red berries combine with notes of rhubarb for a fresh fruit note
