The Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014 is the absolute highlight for all Port Charlotte -fans. Distilled exclusively with barley from its native island, this single malt embodies everything an Islay whiskey should stand for. Adam Hannett, the master behind this exceptional drop, emphasizes that the latest vintage fits seamlessly into the Port Charlotte Islay Barley Expressions series.

The philosophy behind this whisky revolves around the importance of barley and the unique influence of the Islay terroir on the flavor of single malts. Day after day, the distillery team dedicates itself to the origin and the varietal character of individual barley varieties. Barley is not only the essence of whisky, it is also a living expression of the land it comes from.

This whiskey tells the story of the island of Islay and of the people who live and work there. The search for the perfect barley began way back in 2004 when Raymond Stewart was growing barley on his farm in Kentraw Islay, just a mile from the distillery. The harvest has been malted and distilled separately from the Scottish barley. It may even have been the very first Islay single malt ever made from 100% island barley.

Today, 19 years later, the Bruichladdich distillery operates with a total of 20 agricultural partners on Islay together. These partnerships not only help to develop new soil-improving practices and encourage the cultivation of diverse crops, but also support the farming community as a whole.

The Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014 is the result of many years of dedication and cooperation. Distilled in 2014, the barley comes from eight farms spread across the island. With a quiet complexity, this single malt presents itself in a delicate balance of fruit and smoke that gives it its notoriety. He is with 50% vol. bottled and has a peat content of 40ppm. The aging profile is 84% first-fill bourbon casks, 8% second-fill virgin oak casks, and 8% second-fill bordeaux casks.

Let your nose seduce you when malty biscuits and peat embers caress your senses. This is followed by sweet vanilla, notes of honey, toffee and crème brûlée. On the palate, a fascinating interplay of citrus flavors awaits you at the beginning, which is harmoniously rounded off by the gentle peat smoke and merges into a blend of apricots, peach and ripe melon. With hints of stone fruit and toasted oak, this treat finishes with a beautifully balanced finish, accompanied by a lingering whiff of the signature barbecue smoke that Port Charlotte is known for.

Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014 is not just a whisky, but a work of art that reflects the passion and dedication of the people who make it. It celebrates the beauty of the island of Islay while supporting local agriculture and the island community at large. Immerse yourself in this unique taste experience and be enchanted by the fascination of the Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014.
