In 2000, John Glaser worked for a great British distillery when he stated: There is huge potential in the world of Scotch whisky - apart from "that's the way we've always done it". So the London-based American decided to rediscover Scotch whisky and bring the joys of life's water to more people. The middle? Luxury blends and blended malts.
 
Just three years later, Compass Box (then exclusively for the Park Avenue Liquor Shop in New York) brought one of his bis today's most popular bottlings for connoisseurs: The Peat Monster. For the 20th anniversary, the peaty powerhouse is available at cask strength for a limited time.
 
The Peat Monster Cask Strength brings together acclaimed malt whiskeys from Caol Ila and Williamson distilleries on Islay's south coast.Compass Box also emphasizes the special connection to the USA with a partial finish in custom virgin American oak barrels from Missouri, which were inoculated with grain spirit for a short time. Result: strong notes of vanilla and cinnamon with sooty barbecue smoke, seaweed, salt and citrus notes.

Refill Hogsheads, Refill Bourbon Barrels, Refill Sherry Puncheons, Custom French Oak Casks & Custom Virgin American Oak Barrels (partial finish)

Tasting Notes: This is how The Peat Monster Cask Strength 20th Anniversary tastes

• Nose: peat smoke and maritime, strong aromas of seaweed and salty sea air - some vanilla and citrus fruits in the background
• Palate: mouth-filling and complex with intensive peat and smoke notes, the seaweed steps into the background, now clearer fat grill smoke and spicy notes, especially cinnamon, some vanilla
• Finish: long in the warm finish - smoke and peat are present for a long time, plus old leather and spicy oak
