Portrait: What the Pécharmant 2019 Bergerac Chateau de Tiregand.
The best red wines are produced in the northern part of Bergerac with the Pécharmant appellation.
The most famous winery in this area is the Chateau Tiregand in Creysse, it dates from the 13th century and is family-owned since 1831.
The current owner is the Comtesse St. Exupéry, a close relative of the famous writer Antoine de Saint- Exupéry.
A south-facing slope with marl soil (limestone with clay) gives the red wine enough body for one-year barrel storage and up to ten years in the bottle.
The planting of the vineyard consists of 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 60% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc.
After aging in oak barrels, some of which are renewed every year, barrel by barrel clarification is carried out using only egg white.
