Portrait: What makes Takamaka Overproof Rum so special.

The Trois Frere's Distillery is famous for its Takamaka range.
The Takamaka Overproof Rum is made with an alcohol content of 69% vol. bottled - in overproof.

Overproof is an old unit of measurement that has its origins in seafaring.
The rum carried by the Navy was stored on board with the gunpowder.
Should rum barrels be damaged , so the wet gunpowder still had to ignite - hence the high alcohol content.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Takamaka Overproof Rum tastes

  • Nose: strong, intensely spicy aromas, plus the scent of almonds and marzipan - tropical fruity tones in the background
  • Palate: strong and very present with clear notes of vanilla and caramel - behind it Tannins
  • Finish: long and spicy in the robust finish
