Portrait: What makes the West Cork 5 year pot still so special.

The West Cork Pot Still 5 Year Old Pot Still displays notes of hay, freshly cut grass, caramel and pear with undertones of plum and dried fruit. Extraordinary: With a ratio of 66:33 between malted and unmalted barley, the Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey has a high malt content. 

The team at West Cork Distillers, founded in 2003, built most of the equipment themselves. Today, Ireland's southernmost whiskey distillery works with eight pot stills and manages around 55,000 casks in seven Warehouses and sells its products in over 70 countries. A remarkable success.
It builds on the vision of the three founding friends: Produce whiskey of the highest quality at attractive prices and at the same time sustainable jobs in one of the most remote and at the same time most beautiful Creating regions of Ireland.

West Cork is the largest wholly Irish owned distillery in the country. For the whiskeys, the independent team uses only fresh spring water and 100 percent Irish-grown grain. Typical of the island's mild whiskey style, all bottlings by the West Cork Distillers are triple distilled.

Tasting Notes: This is what the West Cork 5 Year Pot Still tastes like

  • Nose: Aromas of hay and freshly mown grass, plus caramel and the sweetness of pears - in the background prunes
  • Palate: Layers of Barley and malt, vanilla and black pepper
  • Finish: medium finish - clearly cotton candy, plus vanilla and plums again
