Portrait: What makes the Gran Duque d'Alba so special.
Bodegas Williams & Humbert is a major player in the sherry and brandy industry.
Founded in 1877 by Alexander Williams and Arthur Humbert, the company is now in the second generation of the Medina family.
Williams & Humbert is the largest bodega in Europe under one roof and contains over 50,000 American oak barrels for aging sherry, brandy and rum.
Dry, full-bodied white wines from the Airen grape variety are the basis for the production of Gran Duque de Alba. ;
They are slowly distilled in stills to an alcohol content of 60-65% vol. distilled.
Only these high-quality "Holandas" come into the solera of the Gran Duque de Alba.
There the brandy matures for at least 10 years in barrels made of American oak, which were previously aged with Oloroso sherry.
The aging works using the traditional system of criaderas y soleras, which originated in this region and has been used for centuries for sherry and brandy in Jerez..< /p>
