Portrait: What makes the Bladnoch Alinta special
With Bladnoch Alinta opens a new chapter for Scotland's southernmost distillery and introduces the first heavily peated Bladnoch Single Malt Whisky.
Alinta means fire or flames in the Australian aboriginal language, which is why David Prior, the Australian owner of Bladnoch Distillery, uses this in his latest bottling Addition to the name.
Bladnoch Alinta is a heavily peated distillate from 2009 (still produced under the previous owners), matured in first-filled former Bourbon Casks as well as heavily peated distillate from the new production ( since 2017), matured in first-filled former Pedro Ximénez Sherry Casks.
Bottled, of course, without the addition of colorings and without chill filtration, with an alcohol content of 47%vol.
The special thing about this single malt is its uniqueness - because that 2009 portions of the Alinta were produced using the old distillation system, but this only took place once.
The then owners of Bladnoch only distilled a single batch of heavily peated malt in 2009 and so it is truly a rarity.
In combination with the new distillate matured in Pedro Ximénez Sherry Casks, the result is an impressive and multi-faceted drop.

- Nose: lots of smoke and aromas of ice cream, plus delicate floral aromas and sweet oak
- Palate: clearly campfire smoke, almonds and chocolate-covered raisins
- Finish: long on the finish with lots of sweet peat smoke
