A week after Burns Night, it also arrived: the single malt that marks the official launch of Lochlea Distillery in the Scottish distillery landscape.

Lochlea (pronounced "Lochli") is growing around an independent farm distillery that has secured a living legend in former Laphroaig Distillery Manager John Campbell as Production Director and Master Blender.
The basis of his work: Barley from Lochlea Farm's own cultivation and water from the hotel's own spring.
Lochlea Single Malt Whisky is traceable from the field to the bottle - true to the distillery's motto, "Dare to be honest".
Honesty can also be understood as an allusion to Robert Burns, one of whose central characteristics it is counted.
Scotland's national poet lived at Lochlea Farm from 1777 to 1784.
In 2017 and 2018 the farm, south of Glasgow in the Lowlands, was expanded into a whisky distillery.
Long awaited, their first bottling is now available.
A lot of time, perseverance and attention to detail went into the Lochlea First Release.
The single malt Scotch whisky, which is neither chill-filtered nor colored, creates anticipation for the core release, which is to follow in 2022.
This succeeds with a profile that is rather atypical for the Lowlands: luscious, fresh garden fruits meet the sweetness of caramel, vanilla fudge and grain as well as a fine spiciness.
The first release developed its appealing aromas in first-fill exBourbon and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, which Lochlea obtains directly from Kentucky and Jerez.
The design of the 7,000 bottles worldwide is inspired by a down-to-earth, everyday detail of the Farm Distillery: tractor tracks.
Nose: An abundance of fresh garden fruit, apples, tangy orange and pear candy, some brown sugar and toffee behind - vanilla fudge in the background
Taste: Lush and sweet with notes of burnt caramel and hazelnuts - still lots of fruit in the form of fruit compote, along with toasted oatmeal, cinnamon and cloves
Finish: medium-length finish with fresh fruit, grain sweetness and a light spiciness
Outturn: 7,000 bottles
