Portrait: What makes the Waterford - The Cuvée special

It is the ultimate goal of Whisky visionary Mark Reynier - now it has been achieved.
With "The Cuvée", Reynier's progressive Waterford distillery marries 25 of its unique Single Farm Origin Whiskeys from different terroirs in Southern Ireland create a complex, in-depth taste experience - from Waterford's perspective the ultimate single malt whiskey.

Why? Mark Reynier explains:
"Coming from the wine industry, I have always been fascinated by how the best Bordeaux wines are made. Instead of combining their grapes into a single Wine, winemakers go to the trouble of producing several individual wines, each of which has its own, expresses character determined by the terroir.Only after months of maturation are these individual wines - each with its individual profile - combined into a single, profound and complex wine, the Grand Vin. Why not do the same with whiskey? This is the vision we have been working on for seven years. The essence of the Waterford project."

The milestone whiskey is correspondingly complex.
Matured in French and American oak, it combines the Nose aromas from red apples to coffee cake, caresses the palate oilily with grapefruit, dark chocolate or muesli and lasts exceptionally long.
To celebrate their cuvée called "lodestar" (English guiding star), Waterford has the artist Leah Hewson for the design of the label.

The Cask types used:

46% First Fill Bourbon Barrels
22% virgin oak barrels made from American oak
15% barrels made from premium French oak (red- & white wines)
17% Vin-Doux-Naturel barrels (Sherry & strong wines)

Tasting Notes: This is how the Waterford - The Cuvée tastes like

• Nose: the scent of red apples, bread crust, green leaves, cookies, oranges, fresh mint and coffee cake

• Palate: extremely oily and structured with grapefruit, lemon peel, dark chocolate, cherries, muesli and jam
