Portrait: What makes The King's Ginger Liqueur special
King Edward VII literally lived in the fast lane.
No weather stopped him from riding in his "horseless carriage" (a Daimler).
But in 1903, the royal personal physician began to worry about the royal's health To make a monarch that would be exposed to the harsh winds at any time of the year.
So he turned to Berry Bros. & Rudd, the purveyor to the court, to find a solution - setting the wheels in motion that led to the birth of The King's Ginger: a tailor-made liqueur designed to warm and invigorate His Majesty.
The King's Ginger is still made today from a grain spirit base with lots of fresh ginger and enlivened by lemon. Intense, golden yellow and fresh and sparkling in taste, he helped King Edward stay in shape and ready for whatever was to come.
Much has changed in over 120 years, but one thing has remained constant : The King's Ginger is a strong, warming, at the same time sparkling and fresh spirit for everyone who likes to live an adventurous life - and enjoys continued popularity to this day.
Berry Bros. & Rudd took the opportunity to create a new design for the royal spirit.
The result is the most modern and at the same time most traditional bottle to date: a new interpretation of King Edward's original saddle bottle, which he always accompanied outside.
The Daimler is immortalized in the form of a steering wheel on the wooden cork.
The recipe has also been revised: It now contains a higher proportion of ginger, even more to radiate the spicy warmth of the tuber.
At the same time, Berry Bros. & Rudd reduced the strength to a milder 29.9% vol. alcohol content to make the liqueur more versatile.
All the decisions were worth it: The King's Ginger was awarded a gold medal at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
With its invigorating properties, The King's Ginger fits in perfectly the cool season.
On excursions or around the campfire: It not only develops its character when enjoyed neat.
It is also found in many drinks The ginger liqueur comes into its own - for example in mulled apple cider or a hot chocolate.
