Portrait: What makes the Orchard House Compass Box special
The majority of the recipe for this one Blended Malt Whisky uses whisky stocks that have been purchased freshly distilled from Compass Box.
These distillates were then matured in Casks to in-house specifications.
Many of the distilleries from which the New Make was sourced are known for their fruity style.
Orchard House showcases and benefits from this fruitiness the many barrel aging methodsthat have been developed and implemented over the last 20 years.
Orchard House stands for a new taste experience: Created according to your own ideas.
Fruits are a symbol of sharing and abundance in many cultures.
Ripe fruits are reminiscent of sweet treats and the light warmth of late summer - hardly anything is as delicious as a perfectly ripe apple or peach.
Compass Box wants this to suggest both ripeness and liveliness; the yellow and green fruit notes represent this perfectly.
The name indicates the fruity nature of the whisky. The term "House" indicates ownership and indicates that the The majority of the distillates belonged to Compass Box from the start.
The whiskies used in detail:
The Linkwood Distillery (34.1%), 1st-fill Bourbon Barrel

Tasting Notes: This is how the Orchard House Compass Box tastes like
- Nose: first apple, pear and peach, then hints of rich peat and black cherry, pineapple, all kinds of citrus peel (especially lemon and lime) - plus Earl Gray tea, ginger develops into a nice maltiness, vanilla and toasted coconut shavings - sweet biscuit notes with a hint of cinnamon
- Palate: Apple juice, muesli, banana and honey, followed by notes of wild strawberries - initially very breakfast-like! Again an oily texture with subtle peat, Sultanas, vanilla and then a creaminess with hay and meadowsweet
- Finish: a hint of cocoa powder in the finish
Suggested enjoyment and suitable dishes
The moment: before dinner - an ideal summer whiskey
Pairing with food: ideal with strong cheddars to bring out the apple, hay and sultana notes
Serving: Orchard House is layered and full of flavors when served over a large ice cube.
The Orchard House also works wonderfully as part of a Boilermaker place setting , combined with a crisp pale ale, lager or pilsner.
