Family whisky makers Wemyss Malts have handcrafted their first ever Single Malt Whisky, naming it UNTOLD RICHES after the aromas and flavours discovered within.
Their adoration of this lauded Islay distillery led Wemyss craft this limited edition Bunnahabhain Single Malt from casks that have been unhurriedly maturing for over 28 years.
From the careful selection of casks, to detailed quality control and the considered art of blending, Wemyss has utilised the same repertoire of skills and expertise required to craft their exceptional Blended Malts, to make this unique Islay Single Malt.
To create this malty-sweet Islay Whisky, the Wemyss Blenders carefully selected 31 Hogsheads and Sherry Butts from several parcels of decades old, unpeated Bunnahabhain to blend into a single malt with a depth of untold riches.
The resulting whisky has an abundance of cereal rich and dried fruit flavours, an oily, mouth coating body and a subtle saffron spice finish.
It has been bottled at 49.1% ABV; a strength found to be an ideal complement to the whiskies flavours as well as being non chill-filtered and natural colour.
Nose: an initial aroma of cracked leather, dusty books and antique wood reveals the decades of cask maturation. Dark fruits, maraschino cherries and orange oil all develop like a gourmet Black Forest Gateau Taste: full bodied and smooth with demerara coated walnuts and pecans mingling with plums, dates, banana bread and stick toffee pudding sauce. Hints of salinity and mineralic notes come through as salted caramel or waxy honey Finish: mild spice hints of saffron, clove and nutmeg. Gentle wood smoke and salted caramel lingers for many seconds
