Portrait: What makes the Benromach 21 year old special

In Forres, on the north-west coast of Speyside, a small team of passionate Distillers have been bringing back a lost style of Speyside single malts since 1998: voluminous and with a hint of smoke. To achieve this, Benromach relies on Highland Peat, as well as Distillers and Brewers Yeast, very long fermentation times and exclusively first fill casks that are stored in traditional dunnage warehouses. And: real handcraft.

The result? Award-winning single malt whiskies, shaped by their makers. The core range is led by the Benromach 10 year old. The price-performance tip, which has won around 14 times, matures on average in 60% sherry and 40% bourbon casks.

For the Benromach 21 year old the Cask ratio is reversed. The elegant Speysider develops delicious notes of Seville orange, baked apple, sweetness and spice and slowly fades away with soft smoke.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Benromach 21 year old tastes like

• Nose: at the beginning there is clearly the influence of the sherr casks, plus It is joined by aromas of spicy oak, fresh ginger and soft smoke
• Palate: very harmonious and balanced with sweet and spicy notes - clearly ripe Seville oranges and cracked black pepper - then ripe raspberries and baked apples follow with raisins and winter spices
