The following whiskeys have been selected for August 2020:
Smokehead Rum Rebel 46% vol. Sample 0.04l
A new Smokehead attracts attention - in a limited edition!
Smoky, peaty-salty Smokehead meets sweet, spicy Caribbean rum - an extraordinary single malt whiskey from the island of Islay!
- Aroma: intense peat aromas, then becoming sweeter, burnt marshmallows and roasted pineapple, followed by bananas and ham
- Taste: mouth-filling - oily with a slight touch of vinegar, plus intense smoke and medicinal tones - above all honey and lime
- Finish: long finish with tones of burning oak logs - the fruit again in the background
Scarabus Islay Single Malt Hunter Laing 46% vol. Sample 0.04l
Scarabus is an ancient mystical place on Islay - in the ancient Nordic language Scarabus means rocky place.
This Islay single malt is a whiskey for those who are curious and have an eye for detail.
On the label and the gift box there is the slogan "only those who seek shall find" - only those who look will find!
The symbols on the bottle are intentionally ambiguous. The design was inspired by the work of Islay-born John Francis Campbell, who developed the Sunshine Recorder, a device that records the hours of sunshine in a day and compiles a large collection of Celtic folklore stories.
- Aroma: a lot of Islay peat and sea salt, then clear aromas of green apples and old leather - above all campfire smoke
- Taste: warming, the leather again - then notes of boiled down rhubarb with an elegant vanilla sweetness, with soft toffee behind
- Finish: long, intense finish with clear peat and charred wood
Orkney 10 year old 2009/2020 Director's Choice Home of Malts 46% vol. Sample 0.04l
Our pride in 2020!
A bottling under our own name - besides the Caol Ila, this is our second bottling under the name Director's Choice!
The single malt whiskey from the better known of the two distilleries in the Orkneys is not allowed to reveal its name for legal reasons.
Be that as it may - the contents of the barrel make our hearts beat faster, because here is something completely atypical for this renowned distillery!
The single malt whiskey has matured for ten years since 2009 in the former bourbon barrel with the number 5246 - then on June 15, 2020, only 477 bottles with a drinking strength of 46% vol. Alcohol content bottled and the barrel was empty ...
- Aroma: clearly beeswax and heather in the foreground - sweet and soft, with ripe limes and lemons, fruity aromas of ripe pears and honeydew melon with ham in the background
- Taste: clear and pure in taste - now the ripe pears are present (reminiscent of a noble Williams Christ Brand), paired with notes of lemon balm and melon with ham - behind it soft, polished leather
- Finish: soft, long and warming in the finish - again the lemon balm, with a little honey
Glendalough Single Cask Burgundy Finish 42% vol. Sample 0.04l
Only 366 bottles were filled from this single barrel bottling.
First matured in a first-fill ex-Bourbon barrel, then matured in a Grand Cru Pinot Noir Burgundy barrel.
- Aroma: first fruity vanilla, then dark berries and slightly spicy aromas of cinnamon and oak
- Taste: full, soft body with notes of butterscotch and mild honey, plus the berries and the spicy notes - above all a slightly earthy note
- Finish: long, now clearly spicy finish with cardamom, aniseed and ground cinnamon bark - in the background raisins, figs and dark chocolate
Caol Ila 7 year old 2012/2020 Director's Choice Home of Malts 46% vol. 0.7l
There it is - our first bottling under our own name!
We searched for a long time and then found this young Caol Ila who knows how to hide his youth very well!
A real representative of the Islay whiskey island with everything you would expect - and a little more ...
Distilled in 2012, the single malt whiskey matured exclusively in the former bourbon barrel with the number 331914.
On June 15, 2020 the time had come and the barrel was at a drinking strength of 46% vol. Alcohol content without cold filtration and without coloring in only 387 bottles.
- Aroma: hot at the beginning, then immediately smoked bacon and soft peat in abundance, then the scent of gauze bandages in an open medicine cabinet - in the background wax and old, damp wood
- Taste: very soft and mouth-filling - surprisingly sweet at the beginning, then the peat again (but not too much) - reminiscent of a damp moor landscape, followed by bacon and light tones of tart herbs
- Finish: medium-long finish with a slight sweetness - peat, bog and
