A lot has happened here since Billy Walker took over the GlenAllachie distillery in 2017! Previously produced almost exclusively for blends, GlenAllachie is now available in various enjoyable single malt fillings. And with their balanced, sweet and fruity style, they are justifiably very popular.

The 9 year old GlenAllachie Rye Wood Finish is the youngest member of the successful GlenAllachie Wood Finish series. For these, selected malts are matured in different barrel types. Means: After the first maturation in barrel type X, the whiskey is re-bedded and given an additional maturation period, the so-called “finish”, in a barrel of different types. This gives the malt whiskey additional nuances in aroma and taste.

This 9-year-old GlenAllachie was initially stored in American oak barrels, which originally housed bourbon whiskey. This is the most common type of barrel in which many Scottish single malts mature. The GlenAllachie was then finished in Rye whiskey barrels from Kentucky. Rye Whiskey is made from rye and is actually America's original, authentic whiskey. In the meantime, however, its popularity has largely depended on the bourbon. The Straight Kentucky Bourbon is mainly made from corn, is sweeter and less spicy than traditional rye whiskey.

The combination of these different barrels gives the GlenAllachie Rye Finish its multi-faceted character, in which spice and fine sweetness harmonize perfectly. Our recommendation: try it!

Tasting Notes: This is how the Glenallachie tastes 9 years Rye Wood Finish

Aroma: Clear spices, especially cinnamon and nutmeg, are prominent. But also fruity notes and delicate sweetness of wild honey and vanilla.

Taste: The intense spice is confirmed, but the sweetness is more pronounced with hints of syrup, honey and toffee. In the background citrus-fruity notes of freshly grated orange peel.

Finish: Round and soft, notes of cloves and citrus complement the sweet and spicy balance.
