Rum and pirates: that is inseparable. And the Captain Morgan Private Stock is undoubtedly about pirates. Because the namesake, referred to here, is none other than the infamous pirate captain Henry Morgan. He was born in Wales in 1635, but later settled in Jamaica, where he died in 1688. In the legendary capital of the pirates, Port Royal, which sank in the sea in 1692 after a tsunami. The privateer Morgan had made a fortune with his raids. Clever tactics also ensured that he was raised to the nobility and even became the governor of Jamaica.

The good Captain Morgan was extremely successful. And that also applies to rum, which is extremely popular worldwide.

But: Strictly speaking, the Captain Morgan Private Stock is not rum at all. Because, as already explained elsewhere: EU spirits law defines rum as “a spirit that is produced exclusively by alcoholic fermentation and distillation from the production of cane sugar derived molasses or syrup or from the juice of sugar cane itself and distilled to less than 96% vol so that the distillate has a noticeable degree of the special sensory properties of rum (...). "For real rum, among other things, it is also required that it is not flavored, which means that additives are not permitted.

However, selected spices were added to this premium bottle from Captain Morgan in order to refine it and make the taste even more multifaceted. The result is a pleasure in terms of taste - according to the EU definition, however, no more rum. Internationally one speaks with such a flavored rum from a "Spiced" or "Flavored Rum". For us, the correct term is "rum-based spirit drink."

For the noble Captain Morgan Private Stock, rum is first distilled from the molasses of sugar cane in the heart of the Caribbean, in Puerto Rico. It matures in oak barrels for two years and is then refined with a special blend of spices. The composition of these ingredients is top secret and is well kept.

The spices and the maturation time in the barrel give the Captain Morgan its spicy, complex character.
