Portrait: What makes Sea Shepherd Islay Single Malt Whisky special
The Sea Shepherd Islay Single Malt Whisky is presented by Kirsch Whisky Service GmbH in collaboration with the marine conservation organization Sea Shepherd, to which the Kirsch Whisky is sold Service GmbH donates ten percent of sales.
The choice for the common spirit was obvious: a whisky that reflects the rough and maritime character of the environmental pirates . Single malt with this character can of course be found in one place in particular: Islay. No other area is as iconically rooted in whisky production as the Scottish island, home to legendary Scotch whiskies with strong notes of smoke and peat.
The Sea Shepherd Islay Single Malt is a wine full of character. With its strong, smoky and at the same time citrus-fresh aromas, it joins the ranks of highly praised Islay whiskies. In terms of taste, it scores points with both whisky lovers and whisky beginners.
But also visually: the matt black bottle in a minimalist design has a delicate nautical chart in white lacquer all around as well as the logo of the globally active organization - the “Jolly Rogers” skull known from pirate ships in combination with a shepherd's crook and trident.
That's fitting, because the members of Sea Shepherd are going along for their mission absolute determination and strength.
When the ships of the Sea Shepherd fleet break through the waves, it's usually a matter of tough survival for sea creatures. Preventing whaling, prosecuting poachers, protecting marine animals from extinction and protecting the world's oceans from littering are just a few examples from the organization's portfolio of activities. Whether on the Atlantic, off the coast of Africa, in the Mediterranean or on the Baltic Sea - Sea Shepherd's mostly volunteer members are deployed internationally on the high seas. Wherever seas and maritime wildlife are in danger, the global movement tries to intervene actively.
