Portrait: What makes The Gauldrons special

The maritime Blended Malt Scotch Whisky from Douglas Laing started his "career" as "Rock Oyster" - to make the fact that these are only island whiskeys clearer, Douglas Laing renamed the whisky “Rock Island”!
It brings together the great malt whiskies from the Scottish islands of Jura, Islay, Arran, and the Orkneys.
A tribute to the sea using the finest maritime malt whiskies.

A truly maritime malt whisky - delicate, tasty and rich in taste with aromas of the stormy North Atlantic sea.
As with Douglas Laing, of course, without the addition of colorings and without chill filtering.

Tasting Notes: This is what The Gauldrons tastes like

  • Nose: coastal rocks washed by the sea and a fresh, salty sea breeze
  • Palate: gentle notes of sweet peat, smoke and honey - then wet ash, licorice and a hint of pepper
  • Finish: long finish in which the strong aromas and notes come back clearly

Surprising complex maritime malt

Creamy vanilla and sweet peat smoke, apricot, apple, pear and some citrus. A long finish. Lovely sense of maturity and quality from nose to finish. Peaty but not overwhelmingly so rather well balanced, mature, smoky and fruity. Surprising complex maritime malt.

Ruined

Douglas Laing ruined an excellent dram when they substituted the in every way inferior Rock Island for their remarkable Rock Oyster. The delightful fruity citrus zest is gone for good. If you tried Rock Oyster while you could, you wouldn't want to touch its misbegotten sibling
