MacNair's Lum Reek 12 Years matures in American Oak and Sherry Casks as well as French Oak barriques and balances sweet smoke with it Heather honey, mocha and gentle spices.

"Lang may yer lum reek" (Gael. "long may your chimney smoke") - the Scottish one Idiom is a greeting for a long life.
The origin of this peated blended malt whiskey can be found b ei Harvey MacNair, On an autumn evening after a day's fishing at the loch in the 1860s, master distiller Harvey MacNair treated himself to a dram of whiskey at the local pub, The Old Stone Bothy, near the GlenAllachie distillery.
The chimney of the Haus didn't draw properly and so the room filled with smoke, which would have been a reason for anyone else to leave the house, was just right for Harvey MacNair - and especially for his whiskey - the whiskey tasted much better now !
The current GlenAllachie Master Distiller, Billy Walker, has now re-created this very heavily peated whiskey - albeit with a little more caution and science than Harvey MacNair over a hundred years earlier.
Tasting- Notes: What does MacNair's Lum Reek 12 Year Old taste like?
Nose: sweet peat smoke, butterscotch and mocha
Palate: a lot Peat, plus spicy heather and gall bush - then butterscotch and toffee again
Finish: long and warming finish with a lot of smoky aromas and intensive notes of spicy heather and bog venison - becoming slightly sweeter, toffee again
