Portrait: What makes the Caol Ila 13 year old "Smoky with Peat" Gordon & MacPhail Discovery special

Once a small deli, Gordon & MacPhail is now one of the international experts in the maturation of special Scotch whiskies. The company has been family-owned for four generations and has combined its own Casks with distillates from over 100 Scottish distilleries. The independent bottler is introducing the Discovery Range to its range. 

The no-frills price-performance tips are sorted by color according to taste profile. In keeping with the character Smoky with Peat, the light tubes contain peated whiskies.

The Caol Ila 13 year old invites you with aromas of vanilla and smoked before Islay peat smoke interweaves with ripe banana and apricot. Kiwi and lively hints of citrus notes finally lead into a long, sweet and smoky finish .

Tasting Notes: This is how the Caol Ila 13 year old "Smoky with Peat" Gordon & MacPhail Discovery tastes like

  • Nose: sweet vanilla and smoked dried meat, then peat smoke - ripe bananas, apples and apricots in the background
  • Palate: full and complex in taste with notes of ripe bananas, kiwi and fresh lemons - heavy peat smoke above all
  • Finish: long, sweet and smoky in the finish - the fruits and the peat are present for a long time
