Portrait: What makes The Gauldrons specail

The Gauldrons (Gaelic for: Bay of Storms) is a vatted malt from Campbeltown-Malts.
Namesake for this blended malt Whisky from the Remarkable Regional Malts range from Douglas Laing are the dark sandy beaches to the west the Scottish Kintyre peninsula.

In Scotland, there is inevitably a legend associated with the Scottish expression Gauldrons - like this You can find a large spider web with a large spider on the bottle and the gift box. King Robert the Bruce lost a battle on the beaches of Kintyre the independence of Scotland.
During this battle, Robert the Bruce observed a spider that, despite all weather-related adversities, tried to spin its web - and since this actually succeeded, Robert the Bruce drew from this the strength to continue the fight for Scottish independence.

Tasting Notes: This is how The Gauldrons tastes like

  • Nose: a dry saltiness paired with sweet grain and traces of gentle peat smoke
  • Palate: initially dry with maritime notes - moist sea air and stones covered with seaweed - then crushed sugar, barley and oak
  • Finish: warming, spicy finish with smoky tones, accompanied by rocks washed by the sea and an elegant sweetness of dark sugar

Fand ich etwas enttäuschend. Recht trocken, kaum Süße, wenig Tiefe, etwas Rauch. Hätte mir mehr erwartet (da ja hier wohl auch Springbank verarbeitet sein dürfte).

Viel zu teuer! Die versprochenen Aromen muss man suchen.

Extraordinary dram

Delicious whisky - a classic Campbeltown dram with salty sea air, sweet biscuits and a hint of smoke. Very tasty indeed and great value for money.

Na ja!

Ich kann von den angegebenen Merkmalen nicht viel erkennen. Die Nähe zum Meer suche ich immer noch. Ich würde ihn für das Geld nicht noch einmal kaufen.
