Portrait: What defines the anCnoc peatheart Batch 3.
The basis for the anCnoc peatheart Batch 3 is peated barley malt, which is then burned in two copper pot stills - both stills are unusually large at Knockdhu, with slowly narrowing, conical necks - the shape and size ensure a high flow back into the stills - the distillate is then cooled in a cast-iron worm tub, matured for over 10 years in former Bourbon Casks and without chill filtration bottled.
The phenol content (responsible for the peat smoke) is an impressive 34ppm.
The Knockdhu Distillery, founded in 1894 in the Scottish Highlands, received an award from the Icons of Whisky was awarded the "Distiller of the Year" award by the renowned Whiskey Magazine.
The distillery has been marketing its single malts since 1993 under the name "anCnoc" (Gaelic "the hill").
This meant that we were not only close by name to the Speyside Malt "Knockando", but also strongly emphasizes that they want to shake off the sometimes old-fashioned image of Scottish whiskey.
It's certainly not about that not to hide great tradition, but to integrate it into the brand identity in a contemporary way and also appeal to younger malt consumers.
The house style is complex and at the same time surprisingly fresh, modern and accessible.
The single malt whiskies have a typical soft and floral nose and the taste delivers the body and character of a Highland malt, sweet with honey and lemon.
The clear spring water of the nearby Knock Hills, the local barley and the characteristic peat ;The surrounding area characterizes the whiskies and contributes to their exceptional softness.
AnCnoc stands for modern whisky tradition.
The single malts are a revelation for every whisky lover and a "must have" in everyone ;Whisky collection.
Distilled in two copper pot stills, then cooled in a cast iron worm tub.
