Ardbeg An Oa

  • Matured in former Bourbon & Pedro Ximénez Sherry Casks

Portrait: What makes the Ardbeg An Oa special

When you think of whiskey from Islay, you inevitably think of whiskies from the brand Ardbeg. This brand is very popular among connoisseurs and collectors. The special bottlings are certainly particularly popular with collectors.

Ardbeg 's An Oa - named after the Oa Peninsula on Islay (An Oa - pronounced an:oh)
The cape of the Oa Peninsula is the southernmost tip of the Hebridean island of Islay. At 202 meters high, the "Mull of Oa" defies many Atlantic storms and reliably protects the south coast of Islay up to Ardbeg Cove. The bay where the Ardbeg distillery has been located for over 200 years.
This contrast - and the round shape of the cliff perfectly reflects the power and gentle sweetness of Ardbeg An Oa.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Ardbeg An Oa tastes like

  • Nose: Smoke and creamy toffee aromas, with anise seed and dates - in the background peach and banana
  • Palate: soft and creamy with an intense syrupy sweetness, with milk chocolate, toffee again and ripe oranges - behind it light notes of lapsang Souchong smoked tea, sweet and spicy with tones of nutmeg and cinnamon, some cigar smoke and grilled artichokes
  • Finish: smoky-sweet with slightly fruity notes
