Portrait: What makes the Benromach 10 year old special
In Forres, on the north-west coast of Speyside, a small team of passionate distillers have been revitalizing alost style of distillers since 1998 Speyside Single Malts again: voluminous and with a hint of smoke. To achieve this, Benromach relies on Highland Peat, as well as Distillers and Brewers Yeast, very long fermentation times and exclusively first fill casks that are stored in traditional dunnage warehouses. And: real handcraft.
The result? Award-winning single malt whiskies, shaped by their makers. The core range is led by the Benromach 10 year old. The price-performance tip, which has been awarded around 14 times, is matured in an average of 60% Sherry and 40% Bourbon Casks.
Tasting Notes: This is how the Benromach 10 year old tastes like
- Nose: at the beginning barley, malty with lots of oak - then becoming fruitier, especially plums and maple syrup - sweet and spicy, a bit of smoke
- Palate: creamy! spicy-fruity, fresh, grated ginger, clearly fruity sherry notes - and the malt again - plus light peat notes
- Finish: sweet-spicy on the finish - the ginger is present again, too a lot Sherry and slightly peaty again

Sehr leichte Rauchnote, süßlich, süfig und rund. Auch hier stimmt das Preis/Leistungsverhältniss (39 €). Ihn möchte nicht mehr in meiner Hausbar missen.
