Product information "Chas. Mackinlay & Co. Rare Old Blended Whiskey (Shackleton Expedition 1907) 47.3% vol. 0,7l"
In 1907, Ernest Shackleton (1874-1922) launched his first of three exploration trips to the Antarctic.
His goal was to be the first person to reach the geographic South Pole.
With the research vessel Nimrod, the crew also started with a, specifically for the expedition, bottled blended malt Scotch whiskey from Chas. MacKinlay & Co.
Five boxes of this whiskey remained in the Antarctic, buried deep under snow, near the established camp.
Nearly 100 years later, one of these boxes was found and brought to the New Zealand Canterbury Museum.
Whyte & Mackay, the current owner of MacKinlay, decided to analyze the whiskey and bring out a copy of the whiskey and the bottle with lots of information about the expedition.
... and here it is!
In addition to the whiskey, which was bottled in a bottle, also imitated in 1907 quality (air bubbles in the glass) was found in the high-quality gift box made of sturdy cardboard, a 26-page book on the history of whiskey, a map of the expedition camp, a map with a timetable of the expedition, a letter copy of Shackleton to his wife from 1908, photographs of the expedition, entries from the diary Shackletons
