Gordon & MacPhail is probably the most important independent bottler in Scotland.
Gordon & MacPhail has vast stocks of barrels from almost all distilleries, the stored vintages date back to the 30s.
The most famous series by Gordon & MacPhail is the Connoisseurs Choice with over 40 different bottlings.
There is also a Cask Strength series and bottlings under the name Spirit of Scotland and Speymalt.
One thing all the bottlings have in common is the very high, excellent quality.
Balmenach
Founded in 1824, the distillery is located in Speyside and produces a very distinctive malt.
As an original bottling Balmenach appeared only as a 12-year-old in the Flora & Fauna series.
Balmenach produces the base malts for the blends of Crabbie, a former licensee of Balmenach.
With the takeover of DCL by United Distillers Balmenach came to UDV.
These ceased operations in 1993 and sold to Inver House in 1997, which resumed production in 1998.
Aroma: fresh and fragrant with a delicate touch of roasted malt
Taste: slightly spicy with a rounded sweetness and a clear fruity component
Finish: long and warm

Bottled: February 2011
