The namesake of the distillery, Jack Daniel, produced already at the age of 13 years as an independent burner his whiskey.
Today's distillery he founded in 1866 in Lynchburg, Tennessee, his biggest success mark - the Old No. 7 - he entered already in 1887 as a brand.
The square bottle has been the trademark of the distillery since 1890.
After the end of Prohibition in the United States in 1933, some counties kept the ban on alcohol, including the home of Jack Daniel's (County Moore).
The nephew of Jack Daniel, Lem Motlow, achieved the impossible: he obtained a license to distillery despite the prohibition of alcohol - and you get so today after a visit to the distillery just no Jack Daniel's served, but only a glass of homemade lemonade "Lynchburg Lemonade ".
The Jack Daniel's as Tennessee whiskey so very tasty, he owes the special kind of filtration.
The so-called "charcoal mellowing process" is the reason - while the whiskey is filtered through a maple-charcoal layer about three meters thick.
This makes it exceptionally mild and gives it a special flavor.
For the Single Barrel Select bottlings, as the name implies, individual barrels are bottled that stand out in terms of quality.
