Caperdonich 1972/2011 Octave Cask f. Malts and More Duncan Taylor 52.5% vol. 0,7l
- Order number: 12781
Duncan Taylor has its roots in Glasgow, formerly a major broker in the whiskey market, Duncan Taylor is now established as an independent bottler.
A few years ago they moved to the Speyside, they founded their own warehouse, where malts from almost all Scottish distilleries from many decades can be found.
Caperdonich - the Octave - exclusive to Malts and More
The Speyside distillery was built in 1898 as a "branch" of Glen Grant.
The two distilleries were connected by a pipeline and Caperdonich was called therefore for a long time "Glen Grant No.2".
Four years later, in 1902, the distillery was shut down again.
Only after the merger of the Grants with Glenlivet and when the distillery was completely outdated, the operation was resumed in 1965.
Caperdonich is now part of the Chivas & Glenlivet Group.
Caperdonich produces a very solid, rather dry malt, as single malt he is only from independent bottlers to get.
Most of the production goes into the Chivas Regal blends.
Exclusive bottling of an Octave Casks for Malts and More.
Octave barrels have just a content of about 45-68 liters, with the result that a single barrel bottling does not produce many bottles - in this case, just 71 bottles.
Due to the small size of the Octave barrels, a whiskey can not spend long maturation here, the influence of the wood and its aromas is too big - "too much whiskey has too much contact with the barrel".
The Caperdonich matured for 38 years in a bourbon barrel, then the whiskey came in a sherry octave cask for another three months.
The result is a 38-year-old whiskey with a perfect ripeness and balance rarely found in malts of this age:
Aromas of figs, strawberries and dark cherries and a bit of allspice.
In the taste again ripe figs, cinnamon, a little apple, a light spice and some pepper, plus Butterscotch.
