Caol Ila is considered an insider tip, compared to other Islay whiskeys it is light - but it has an intense peat taste.
Most of the production goes in blends like Johnnie Walker, so that the bottlings as single malt are relatively small.
Caol Ila was founded in 1846, and in 1863 ownership changed to Bulloch, Lade & Co.
From 1920 to 1927, the distillery Robertson & Baxter belonged before they finally came to DCL (later UDV).
In the years 1972 to 1974 Caol Ila was completely renovated.
The first 12-year old bottling of the untilled Caol Ila.
Contrary to all other bottlings of the distillery, this 12-year-old was burned with unsupported barley.
Bottled in barrel size!
