Portrait: What the Macallan 12 Years Sherry Oak Cask.

For a long time, Macallan only offered Single Malt matured in former Sherry Casks.
The fact is, the world has hardly drunk Sherry for more than 25 years.
Unfortunately, this also means that the Scottish distilleries no longer receive the coveted Casks from the Spanish bodegas in abundance.
Many distilleries, including Macallan, have now concluded contracts with Spanish Sherry Bodegas, which allows them to supply them with the coveted Sherry Casks guarantee.
Unfortunately that has its price and so Macallan also had to bite the famous bullet and find new ways.
The Macallan 12 year old Sherry Oak Cask is therefore a real classic - the bottling represents the old tradition at Macallan and impressively presents what a Sherry Cask-aged Single Malt has to offer!

Tasting Notes: This is how the Macallan 12 year old Sherry Oak Cask tastes like

  • Nose: clear sherry sweetness, vanilla and some ginger - a slight smoky note in the background
  • Palate: wonderfully soft, intense fruity notes reminiscent of dried fruits - especially plums and apricots - remember, again you can taste the sherry, there are also spicy notes and the smoke again
  • Finish: again the dried fruits and the spices - but above all sweet toffee notes
