Dewar's was founded as a blending company in 1847 by John Dewar.
Dewar was one of the first to offer his whiskey in bottles (usually barrels or jugs).
In 1885 John Dewar's sons John Alexander and Tommy opened a London office and caught the nerve of the day - the English loved everything "wild" that came up there from the Scottish Highlands.
