Macallan
The Macallan was founded in 1824.
Since 1892 the distillery is run by the Kemp family.
The Kemps had until 1996, the majority of the distillery.
The end of independence came when Highland Distillers gained the majority.
The reputation of the distillery is impeccable - The Macallan is considered the Rolls-Royce among the whiskeys.
This is probably due to the fact that the whiskey, which is bottled as a single malt, is stored exclusively in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks.
Only the whiskey, which is intended for blends, comes from bourbon barrels.
Macallan selects the barrels in Spain and leaves them there until needed in Scotland.
