Macallan "Forties" 40% vol. 0.5l

The Macallan was founded in 1824.
Since 1892 the distillery is run by the Kemp family.
The Kemps had until 1996, the majority of the distillery.
The end of independence came when Highland Distillers gained the majority.
The reputation of the distillery is impeccable - The Macallan is considered the Rolls-Royce among the whiskeys.

Macallan - Forties
With this bottling, Macallan has copied the style of their whiskeys from the 40s.
Due to the shortage of sherry casks during the Second World War, barrels were frequently refilled during this period.
Coal was just as scarce - and so Macallan used peat to dry the barley in the 1940s.
The result was a malt that was less spicy but peatier.
This bottling is a perfect copy of a Macallan of that time.

Michael Jackson rated this malt with 94 out of 100 possible points.
