Portrait: What makes the Old Pulteney 12 year old special
The Old Pulteney Distillery is located in the middle of the town of Wick and is one of the northernmost distilleries on the Scottish mainland.
The remote place was consideredat the beginning of the 19th century as the herring capital of Europe.
To quench the thirst of dock workers and fishermen, James Henderson founded the Old Pulteney Distillery in 1826 and named it after the then director of the British Fishing Company, Sir William Johnstone Pulteney.
Today it is one of the top 10 Malt Whisky Producers in Great Britain.
Their whiskies? Maritime through and through, shaped by the sea and the history of the distillery.
With each distillation, the combination of salty Sea Air and Cask management creates different taste experiences.
This is what the 4-part core range in the new design stands for.
Refreshingly different and yet familiar, thanks to the classic and distinctive Old Pulteney bottle shape and the DNA of a coastal malt.
This is clearly demonstrated by the Old Pulteney 12 year old - matured in former Bourbon Casks, presents the compact, soft Single Malt Whisky lively and with a hint of sea salt.
The 12 year old is a typical Single Malt from a distillery located on a rugged coastal landscape.
The salty Sea Air shapes the taste of this traditional whisky - fresh and slightly salty.

Interessante Alternative zu Highland Whiskys, einerseits gibt es hier Heidekraut-, Frucht- und Honignoten, aber hier kommt eine leicht salzige Note hinzu, die den Whisky angenehm pikant und lang anhaltend macht.
