Portrait: What makes the Edradour 10 year old
Edradour has been pretty high up in the popularity scale of single malt fans since it was taken over by Andrew Symington in 2002.. The genuine whiskies from the distillery, located in the heart of the Scottish Highlands east of Pitlochry (in a small valley, hidden by the surrounding mountains), are partly produced using original equipment from the 19th century.
A celebrated standard from “Scotland's little gem” is the Edradour 10 year old.
The reason? A lush profile of dried fruits and syrup, malty and nutty notes as well as warm spice from 100% sherry casks.
And: an excellent price-performance ratio Ratio.
Edradour, with its three employees, produces as much whisky in a year as other distilleries in a week.
Since the distillery was taken over by the blending company Whiteley in 1933, Edradour has supplied one of the base malts for the “House of Lords” blend, which is served in the said upper house of the British Parliament.
As Edradour has only been around as a single malt since 1982, when the then owner Whiteley was taken over by Campbell Distillers.
The last time the owner changed was in 2002.
Since then, the independent bottler Signatory under the leadership of Andrew Symington has been in charge of the distillery and only since then has there been some of these wonderful limited single malts in addition to the 10-year-old standard bottling Distillery on the market.
Tasting Notes: This is how the Edradour 10 year old tastes like
- Nose: very complex with aromas of sweet Sherry, ripe fruits and vanilla - roasted nuts in the background
- Palate: at the beginning a slight sweetness, reminiscent of Rum - with roasted almonds, fruity notes again, juicy dried fruits - especially figs and dates, some heather and a hint of smoke
- Finish: Heather and vanilla are clear, as well as the juicy dried fruits and warm pastries - malty notes above all

Alles bestens, gerne wieder.
