Caol Ila is considered an insider tip, compared to other Islay whiskies it is light - but it has an intense peat taste.
Most of the production goes into blends like Johnnie Walker, so that the single malt bottlings are relatively small.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Caol Ila 12 year old tastes like

  • Nose: Peat smoke, fresh seaweed, slightly salty
  • Palate: Peat smoke and smoked fish, tar and damp leather , slightly salty
  • Finish: smoked fish again, now almost as if it was burnt, oily notes that linger for a long time, with a touch of lemon and caramel
