Amrut

Although India is the country with the largest whisky production in the world, very little of it leaves the country. However, one distillery set out to shape the reputation of Indian whisky worldwide. The Amrut single malt saw the light of day in 2004. The distillery has been in existence since 1948 and Amrut's high quality standards were underpinned by taking on the benchmark of all single malts in blind tastings: The Single Malt Scotch. Amrut was extremely well received in the blind tastings in Scotland and most participants were surprised to have an Indian whisky in their glass. Today, Amrut's underdog days are long gone. The "elixir of life", which translates as Amrut, is an exciting and exotic single malt whisky. What does Amrut whisky taste like Amrut works with both Indian barley from the Himalayas and peat malt from Scotland. This enables the distillery in Bangalore to produce non-smoky and smoky single malt. With long fermentation times of 140 hours, the result is a very fruity distillate that matures extremely quickly in the barrel in the Indian climate. Tropical fruits, exotic spices and caramel tones are typical of Amrut whisky. Due to the extreme climate, the whisky has to leave the barrel after a few years, as the Angels Share is 12-15%! Amrut completely dispenses with the addition of caramel and chill filtering and thus presents a thoroughly natural Indian single malt whisky. An unconditional recommendation!
