Destilliert wird der Ron Zacapo in Guatemala, 2.300 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel.
Die verwendeten Fässer sind zwischen 6 und 23 Jahren alt, hergestellt und abgefüllt wird der Solera Gran Reserve im Solera-Verfahren (allgemein üblich in der Sherry-Produktion).
Hierzu werden zunächst verschiedene Rum-Fässer in einem Solera-Fass miteinander vermählt.
Aus diesem Solera-Fass wird nur die Hälfte abgefüllt, die andere Hälfte verbleib im Fass und wird mit einer neuen Charge wieder aufgefüllt.

Ron Zacapa wird ausschliesslich aus frischem Zuckerrohrsaft hergestellt.
Zacapa verwendet für die Rum-Lagerung alte Bourbon-, Sherry- und Pedro-Ximénez-Fässer.

Aroma: Vanille, Mandel, dazu süße, fruchtige Aromen, etwas Schokolade, geröstetes Holz und im Hintergrund etwas würzig
Geschmack: im Geschmack erkennt man wieder die Vanille und die Mandeln, wieder fruchtig süß und sehr ausgewogen
Abgang: der Abgang sehr lang und elegant
