Caol Ila gilt als Geheimtipp, verglichen mit anderen Islay-Whiskys ist er leicht - doch er hat einen intensiven Torfgeschmack.
Der größte Teil der Produktion geht in Blends wie Johnnie Walker, so daß die Abfüllungen als Single Malt relativ gering ausfallen.
