Caol Ila gilt als Geheimtip, verglichen mit anderen Islay-Whiskys ist er leicht - doch er hat einen intensiven Torfgeschmack.
Der größte Teil der Produktion geht in Blends wie Johnnie Walker, so daß die Abfüllungen als Single Malt relativ gering ausfallen.

Aroma: Torfrauch, frisches Seegras, leicht salzig
Geschmack: Torfrauch und geräucherter Fisch, Teer und feuchtes Leder, leicht salzige
Abgang: wieder geräucherter Fisch, jetzt fast wie verbrannt, ölige Noten, die sich lange halten, dazu leicht Zitrone und Karamell

Ein Versuch, gelungen.
Deutliches Torfaroma mit Salz
Geschmacklich sticht der Rauch mit Anklängen von Räucherfisch hervor. Im Abgang war leicht Zitrone und Karamell zu schmecken.
